Explore the Mysterious Inner Mongolia 2009
The Program

Among modern languages, Chinese integrates both meaning and pronunciation information in its characters. Markham International Education Center developed the Chinese Study and culture experiencing program that decipher this rich information to help students understand, appreciate and remember Chinese characters, one of humanity's greatest and most enduring cultural achievements. The Chinese Study Course will be offered at Inner Mongolia University located in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia in China, the most mysterious and attractive prairie in China.

At the end of the program, university credits will be awarded to participants with program accomplishment certificate.

The Location

Inner Mongolia is an attractive place in China with the largest prairie. The vast Xilin Gol grasslands and the boundless Hulun Buir grasslands enjoy high prestige both home and abroad. People feel absolutely going back to nature when galloping on the horse back and enjoying the wild beauty. You may as well go to visit Genghis Khan's (A Generation of Heavenly Pride) Mausoleum to share and appreciate the great historic figure's lofty sentiments and splendid merits.

Hohhot (meaning "green city") is located in the southern central part of Inner Mongolia, and is the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Hohhot was founded by Altan Khan in around 1580. 11% of the city is of Mongol origin, while the majority of the population is Han Chinese. Korean, Hui, Manchu and other minorities also occupy part of the city's population. It’s a popular destination for tourists during the summer and is often used as a place to escape the heat. There are over 50 sets of murals in southeastern Hohhot, including a "Horse-tending Image". The city also has over 50 pre-modern Buddhist temples and towers.

INNER MONGOLIA UNIVERSITY

The Inner Mongolia University, founded in 1957, was established by China's Ministry of Education as one of China's key universities in 1978, and is also the only key national-level university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1997, the University became one of China's hundred "211 project" universities for key construction and development, The University is located in the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hohhot, a city with a long history and rich culture beyond the Great Wall.

At present, the College has enrolled international students from the United States, Germany, Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Russia and Syria, etc. The university is experienced in taking care of overseas students.

Courses

Based on the vocational level of the foreign students, the Han Chinese courses are held at four levels. There are the entrance levels, elementary level, intermediate level as well as the advanced level. We also organize colorful cultural and language activities so as to strengthen the students' understanding of the Chinese culture, cultivating real skills in using the Chinese language.

Special class for HSK exam (Chinese Proficiency Examination) is available upon request for those who pursue further study of Chinese or seeking for jobs in China.

Housing

Students will be placed in the foreign student’s dormitory there are shared kitchens and laundries and single bed or double bed rooms. Each room has a bath room, a desk, a TV set, and internet connects. The surrounding of the foreign students dormitory is picturesque and lyrical as an oasis with stretches of green grass and hanging branches of various kinds of landscapes.

Intensive summer programs
Fee includes tuition, registration, visa documents, orientation information, transcript (certificate), student support services, campus facilities, room and board, and excursions.

Requirements

Program open to all students and adults 18 years of age and older. Passport and Visa required for entry into China. Early registration is advised, so you have time to obtain a Visa.

Students staying 3 months or longer in China may be required to take a medical exam and aids test in China. Medical tests done prior to arrival into China will not be accepted. The test needs to be done in China. Each student is also required to pay the small fee for the medical exam cost directly there. Short term students are usually not subject to these tests.

Also, upon applying for a Visa, students attending for 3 months or longer may need to show that they are in good health by providing a completed health report form from the Chinese Consulate. Again, short term students of less than 3 months usually do not need to provide this. Ask the Chinese Consulate for details and to obtain forms.

Registration and Information

Register online. $50 deposit required. Payments can be made by money order, cashiers check, or personal check. We will e-mail you a "Confirmation Notice" with additional information shortly after receiving your online registration form.
