Experiencing Chinese Kongfu in Shanghai
The Program

Chinese Martial Arts, known as Kongfu or Wushu, are originated from China and characterized by various barehanded and armed combat techniques. Markham International Education Center set up the Chinese Kongfu Program for interested practitioners. The program will be held at the top 1 Chinese sport university in Shanghai. In addition to Chinese Kongfu, the Chinese language class will be offered in order for participants to gain further understanding about Kongfu culture.

At the end of the program, university credits will be awarded to participants with program accomplishment certificate.

The Location

Shanghai situated on the banks of the Yangtze River Delta in East China, is the largest city in China. Widely regarded as the citadel of China's modern economy, the city also serves as one of the nation's most important cultural, commercial, and communications centers.

Shanghai experiences all four seasons, with freezing temperatures during the winter season and a 32°C (90°F) average high during the hottest months of July and August.

School

SHANGHAI UNIVERSITY OF SPORT
Shanghai University of Sport (SUS) was established in November 1952 and became the top sport university in China. The University plays an active role in international cultural exchange. SUS is one of the earliest universities in China admitting international students. While promoting the teaching and research in physical education, SUS helps carrying forward the glorious Chinese culture, thus enjoying a good reputation internationally. Students from 20 countries are pleasantly living and pursuing their studies there.

Courses

SUS offers semester or short-term programs. Student will have lecture with demo and practice in Kongfu. The detailed course will be determined by school. Student will learn Kongfu from the following options.

TAE KWON DO

The objective of the Tae Kwon Do course is to give the student a wide knowledge of fundamental Tae Kwon Do movements and to provide the students with dual-combat techniques in Tae Kwon Do.

Optional Travel Activities

Travel plans for Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Shanghai: Shanghai Great East Tower; JingAn Temple and downtown Shanghai; The Huangpu River

Hangzhou: Tiger fountain, Three-moon Lake; Lin-Yin (Hidden) Peak

Housing

Student will resident in International Welcome Center at Shanghai University of Sport. The welcome center is equipped with 2-star hotel standard. Students stay in double rooms, with private bathroom, phone, air-conditioner and heater.

Term program fee Includes

Tuition, registration, visa documents, housing confirmation in student residence, orientation information, transcript (certificate), student support services, campus facilities, some excursions. Meals and Room not included. Medical exam cost for long term students not included.

Requirements

Program open to all students and adults 18 years of age and older. Passport and Visa required for entry into China. Early registration is advised, so you have time to obtain a Visa.

Students staying 3 months or longer in China may be required to take a medical exam and aids test in China. Medical tests done prior to arrival into China will not be accepted. The test needs to be done in China. Each student is also required to pay the small fee for the medical exam cost directly there. Short term students are usually not subject to these tests.

Also, upon applying for a Visa, students attending for 3 months or longer may need to show that they are in good health by providing a completed health report form from the Chinese Consulate. Again, short term students of less than 3 months usually do not need to provide this. Ask the Chinese Consulate for details and to obtain forms.

Registration and Information

Register online. $50 deposit required. Payments can be made by money order, cashiers check, or personal check. We will e-mail you a "Confirmation Notice" with additional information shortly after receiving your online registration form.
